First Aid training in the UK has become a tick box, classroom based Power Point led exercise and is not fit for purpose.
Tim and Sandstone have set about changing the way this life saving training is delivered and perceived. An in depth study of Health and Safety Executive documentation reveals that the problem lies not with legislation but with training providers and complacency.
The team have developed a way of training simple skills in a realistic way. All of the training is delivered utilising immersive scenario based workshops. Delegates pass or fail the course based on their ability to carry our first aid skills rather than pass a multi choice exam.
ATACC Group Professional Partner
In 2022 Sandstone First Aid Training became a professional partner of the ATACC group.
The ATACC Group are a Royal College of Surgeons, London approved Educational Centre who offer a suite of qualifications that meet HSE First Aid training requirements.
They are known for providing quality first aid, clinical and medical education and training to every level of provider involved in patient care. Partnership with this elite organisation enables Sandstone First Aid to deliver the very highest level of up to date trauma training and utilise the ATACC groups centre of excellence in Preston.
RTACC Operator
Throughout his military career and as a result of various challenges Tim has received extensive medical training. In 2024 he decided to put his skills to the test and train alongside Sandstone’s chief instructor Mike Hope and the crew from Edinburgh Airport Fire Service. He passed the course run by the ATACC Group and is now a qualified RTACC (Rescue Trauma and Casualty Care) operator.
Ukraine
Tim has led a series of aid missions to Ukraine. The team delivered over 26000 ration pack meals, 700 new sleeping bags and 500 trauma kits. The real purpose was to teach emergency trauma first aid to Ukrainian volunteers.
Deep inside Ukraine on a former soviet air base they successfully trained 150 volunteer soldiers. Just four weeks before the training these men and women were ordinary members of the public now they find themselves on the front line.
TBS Conference – Zermatt.
The most sick patients in the most extreme circumstances. Tim has been asked to combine his speaking and training experience to deliver a keynote speech and workshops at the annual TBS conference in Zermatt.
Senior surgeons, medics and rescue teams from across the globe come together in order to share best practice and develop their skills.
