Enabling resilience with Spirit Energy

Initially there was a little imposter syndrome. Off-shore crews are notoriously tough, resilient individuals who choose to work in some of the most harsh environments on earth. What could I teach them?

The answer was actually nothing!

But what I could do was help them to think operationally. To focus on removing irrelevant information and dealing with intelligence. To take the skills and knowledge they already have and apply them slightly differently to increase their performance in real world situations.

I'm often asked at conferences whether I get push back on performance behaviours from people who are really good. My answer is always the same.

I only get push back from people who think they are really good and have closed their minds to the possibility of doing things differently.

The Spirit Energy team are robust individuals, some of whom spend weeks at a time, unable to go home and living in dangerous environments, and yet they are open minded and keen to adopt new skills.

This is the basis for building high performance teams.

It's always great to watch leadership over management with members of ExCon Nick Harrison and Peter Hepburn getting fully involved!

We topped the day with the Sandstone Communications chief instructor Mike Hope running a Save a Life team building course on the beach in Zandvoort.

I've been asked by some of the crew whether I'd go and see them off shore!

Of course the answer is yes.

I'm booking my BOSIET (off shore survival training) course and am heading off shore to see the guys in action - What could possibly go wrong!
